EVIDENCE ON EVALUATING
CHILDREN'S HANDWRITING (3 hours)
With readability and speed serving as the cornerstones for
measuring children's handwriting, this session focuses on
these constructs and the impact of legibility components.
Recent studies about children's handwriting speeds, legibility,
and styles will be discussed. Learning activities will allow
the pediatric occupational therapy practitioner to apply this
evidence and knowledge to clinical case studies and practice.
HAVING
FUN WITH THERAPY CLUBS (3.5 hours)
When you are working harder than the child in handwriting
intervention, you know it's time for some new ideas. This
session introduces an enjoyable venue for children engaging
in handwriting remediation. Examine the use of a childrens
club format to interweave the areas of social development,
postural preparation, multisensory media, and the biomechanical
aspects of the hand. The club format can be applied to all
areas of pediatric occupational therapy. Bring your best handwriting
intervention technique to share!

THE DINNER TABLE TO THE TEAM MEETING (1.0 hour keynote)
Your childhood dinner table had more than macaroni and cheese
served at it. Relational norms were first experienced at the
dinner table but now can also apply to your work team's meetings.
Did you know that relational norms predict both your team's
satisfaction and performance? This interactive presentation
examines how a teams relational skills contribute to
and detract from getting your team's work done well.
RISING
UP TO EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP (1.5 hours)
With 72 roles of team leaders identified in the literature,
where does a team leader begin? Effective team leadership
is crucial to the health and human service teams functioning
as well as the organization. Using a custom-designed case
study and empirical evidence, this session explores how certain
attitudes and actions of team leaders assist work teams to
perform better.
TRANSFORMING
TEAM PIRATES (2.0 hours)
Ever been to a team meeting when someone dominated the conversation?
How about the member who plays the victim? At some point,
each team experiences a member who absorbs its energy. These
Team Pirates take many forms. Join this session to understand
more about Team Pirates and how to manage their behaviors
-- so that your entire team can perform well.
CREATING
A BUOYANT AND EFFECTIVE TEAM (4.0 hours)
From an evidence-based approach, this workshop examines the
structural, contextual, and relational ingredients of high-functioning
teams. Participants who incorporate these team elements will
experience a more healthy and productive team in their workplace.
Through interactive discussion, lecture, and small group exercises,
participants will grasp the necessary ingredients for making
their own health and human service team buoyant and more effective.
