NWA 5744 (Paired) Lunar Meteorites for Sale
Location: Reportedly from Mali--purchased from a Moroccan dealer in Tucson.
Found: 2009-15
Classification: Achondrite (lunar, granulitic troctolitic breccia)
Description: Greenish bluff-colored stones with prominent dark shock veins of translucent green glass. Granular texture is evident in hand specimen and under low magnification. Petrography and geochemistry from NWA 5744: "Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS; T. Bunch, NAU): Recrystallized breccia composed mainly of plagioclase (up to 100 µm) with fine-grained (<50 µm) olivine, pigeonite, orthopyroxene, and accessory Ti-chromite and Ni-bearing troilite. Geochemistry: Plagioclase (An97.9Or0.1), olivine (Fa20.7, FeO/MnO = 76.9–94.5), pigeonite (Fs16.6Wo9.7, FeO/MnO = 50). Bulk composition (R. Korotev, WUSL): INAA on a 185 mg fragment gave FeO 5.7 wt%, Na2O 0.25 wt%; Sc 8.3, Cr 1050, La 1.1, Sm 0.47, Eu 0.58, Yb 0.42, Th 0.15, all in ppm."

Comment: Why don't these specimens have a classification of their own? This is one of several meteorites that have come to the market in numerous parcels of virtually identical material. As can be seen from the Washington University page, cited above, this meteorite has been classified many times. I believe that another classification would only add cost without contributing any useful knowledge. Better to have a lower priced specimen than another duplicate classification.
