| | Here are a few photos to share of the
new house, taken with a digital camera.  We'll get lots more pictures
scanned in and onto the site when we have some rainy days.  Lost of
pictures out of the house at the moment - the inside is not much to
look at yet, just a bunch of cardboard boxes and scattered
furniture.  We'll get to the inside at a later date. - Sunday May 13, 2001 |     |

| | View through the arch over the kitchen sink and into the sun
room.  Doors and windows are wide open today to take in all the fresh
air to revive the inside of the house.

| | Out the computer room window, to the northeast.  The leaves are just
starting to break out on the birch trees in the front yard.  So far,
the cats have not figured out how to jump onto the roof of the arctic
entry, to the left. | |

| | Out the adjacent computer room window, to the southeast.  The
Colorado blue spruce out front is a nice contrast to the
"pipe-cleaner" form of spruces native to the Anchorage
bowl.  Wolverine Peak is still visible above the neighbor's garage,
and we're thinking of trying to convince the city to put a hood on that
streetlight... though we'll probably forget all about it until it starts
getting dark again in August!

| | Out the sunroom doors to the deck.  Backyard is still pretty barren,
and needs to be raked soon.  We'll be putting down some red fescue
grass seed this spring to rejuvenate the lawn.  The yard is
half-shaded, and Anchorage is very dry from late April through July, so we
need a more shade- and drought-tolerant grass.

| | East-facing picture window toward the front yard.  The mountains will
become invisible within a week or two as the trees leaf-out.  We are
fortunate that, back in 1968, the builders of this house chose to keep so
many mature trees on the property.  We didn't notice that basketball
hoop was there until we moved in.  Neighborhood kids still use it so
we'll probably just keep it there for now.  On a trip to Southeast
Alaska next month Mike hopes to collect some large ferns to plant within
the tree stand.  The yard's pretty much a blank slate for flower
gardening too. | |

| | Sheida, our recently adopted dog, standing still for a moment in the
backyard.  Today was sunny and warm in the mid-60s.  Donna says
a freak snowstorm dumped 5 inches in town last week, but we're hoping that
was a fluke. | |

| | Sheida relaxing in the sunshine.  That cat in the background belongs
to some  friends who are out of town.  Our own cats have been
staying inside for the most part, but they're starting to get used to the
dog as time goes on. | |
