"The Highest Degree of
Safety" Awards
Dennis Steffy, C.M.S.P.,
Director of the Mining and Petroleum Training Service at the
University of Alaska Anchorage was presented with "The
Highest Degree of Safety" award by the International Society
of Mine Safety Professionals.
The recipient of this award
personifies an understanding leader that endeavors to
provide honest, impartial service. It is the opinion of the
Society's award committee that Mr. Steffy has upheld and
advanced the integrity, honor and dignity of the safety,
health and environmental professions.
The Society stated that Mr.
Steffy's dedication and professionalism reflects the highest
degree of professional conduct. His work, integrity and
exemplary devotion have earned him the respect of his peers
the world over.
The award is given to
individuals whom, in the Society's view, have contributed
most significantly to the reduction of injury and illness.
The International award is given to only one person in the
world. The national award is given to the qualifying
individual in any country with a Society Chapter. The awards
are not limited to the mining industry or members of the
Society.
The award was presented by
the National Safety Council Chairman, Jerry Scannell, former
Secretary of Labor.
