I
First Successful Caribou Hunt September 2001
I

Homeschooled Willow Lake resident Miriam Barno shines atop her first ever and trophy sized caribou taken in Hungry Hollow at the Federal Subsistence Hunting Area off the Denali Highway. Twelve year old Miriam took the animal with a .308 Winchester at approximately 300 yards. She recently completed the Alaska State Hunter Safety Course, and was coached by her dad, Ed Barno. The only negative aspect of her success was the nearly two mile pack uphill that was required to salvage all of the meat.

With all of the toil now a memory, it is time for "Bon Apetité. "
