Community Education classes:
Community Awareness Workshop on
Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault
Held twice a year - April and October
The LeeShore Center Community Meeting Room

This 45 hour course is open to the public. The goal of the
course is for everyone to become more informed about domestic violence and sexual assault.
Attendees will learn about:
* The dynamics and escalating nature of domestic violence
* The effects of domestic violence on children
* How a community's response to domestic violence/sexual assault impacts victims
* Community resources available to victims of domestic violence/sexual assault
Successful completion of this 45 hour course is required for those who wish to work with
clients.
Cost for this course is $35. Continuing education credit may be obtained from
Kenai Peninsula College after completion of the course and 30 hours of volunteer time with the
agency.

Tuesday
Changing Patterns
An educational support group for women experiencing negative emotional patterns in their
daily lives, which may be due to victimization (domestic violence/sexual assault) or
substance abuse. We will examine and explore those patterns and offer new options and tools
for changing them. This is an on-going group. The group meets from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Thursday
Parenting for Women
An educational support group which focuses on child development, logical and non-violent
consequences for behavior and how to be a kind, yet firm parent. This is an on-going group.
The group meets from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Friday
Domestic Violence Support Group
A domestic violence support group is held on Fridays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The group is for women who are currently in an abusive relationship or who have experienced
domestic violence in the past. Support group members will learn the definition of domestic
violence, the effects of domestic violence on children, the cycle of abuse, the continuums
of abuse, the differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships, safety planning and
other related topics.
Fees
There is a $5.00 fee for each of these classes (Changing Patterns, Parenting for Women,
Domestic Violence Support Group); however, fee waivers are available. For more information,

School Presentations
Annually, The LeeShore Center provides in-school education to over 1,000 central peninsula
K-12 public school students. The LeeShore Center staff provide interactive presentations on
topics such as bullying prevention, healthy relationships, conflict resolution, dating
violence and domestic violence.
