The Batterers Intervention Program (BIP) is a component of The LeeShore Center. The BIP is a state certified,
48-week educational program for men who have used violence in an intimate relationship. The majority of men who
participate in the BIP are court ordered, although referrals may come from a variety of sources, including
self-referrals.
The goal of the BIP is threefold:
o Stopping the violence
o Providing safety for victims
o Holding batterers accountable
Weekly classes focus on challenging values and beliefs that reinforce domestic violence through the use of power
and control in intimate relationships. Topics are centered on five specific modules that include:
o Power and Control
o Empathy and Compassion
o Communication Skills
o Anger Prevention
o Stress Management and Self-Esteem
All participants attend two orientations and 46 class sessions. Classes are held twice a week
(Tuesday 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm, and Thursday 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm). The cost is $100.00
for orientation and $25.00 per class. Community service is available in lieu of the weekly class fee for those
participants who qualify.
