Alaska wildlife photography

Here in the beautiful Chandalar Valley, the wildlife is abundant.

Catch the magnificent grizzly bear in your view finder. Appearing from their dens in April or May (some with cubs) they are wonderful to watch.  Later in the season you may find the grizzlies along the lake shores and river beds, eating the fish and berries that will fatten them for their long winter's sleep.

Photograph moose along the waterways, grazing on the water vegetation or wandering in the willow trees.  If luck is with you, you might see a cow and her calves or a bull with a spectacular antler spread.

There are wolves living within howling distance of our cabins.  In the early mornings or late afternoons, these fascinating animals can sometimes be seen going about their daily lives of raising their young.  Late in the evenings, you can hear them calling to one another as the sun goes down.

Dall sheep
An Alaska lynx

There are many fur bearing animals that reside in this valley. The incredible wolverine, our own version of the Tasmanian Devil, is one. The lynx, a wily native cat is also here.  We also see many of the weasel family, the occasional river otter and  the Arctic and red fox.

Across from our facilities, Dall sheep can be seen scrambling up and down the mountain. These beautiful animals can be seen with spotting scopes, binoculars or a long camera lens.

Bring your cameras and film and in case you underestimate the volumes of pictures you will take, we sell 35mm film!

Again, welcome to our Alaska Wonderland!
