Lowell Point is situated on the west side of Resurrection Bay, about 1 mile south of Seward. "Lowell Point Road" starts at Mile "0" of the Seward Hightway and Railroad Ave. The road hugs the base of the mountain for a little over 1 mile. Watch for sea lions, otters and a myriad of sea birds as well as eagles, mountain goats, pot holes and falling rocks. There are several pull-outs on the west (mountain) side of the road. Feel free to stop and take lots of pictures but be advised that parking is prohibited on the Bay (east) side of the road. Most of the "Point" is privately owned with public beach access points at Miller's Landing and the southern end of Beach Drive at Martins Drive. Parking is available at Miller's Landing, Caines Head Trail Head and Lowell Point State Recreational Area. The "Point" boosts of a working farm, (you can get fresh eggs at Miller's Landing), a camping facility with rv and tent sites; B & B's, a lodge, cabins and year round homes. Fishing charters, paddle boats, and sea kayaks are also available or do some serious bird watching (the feathered variety). The "Point" was visited in May & June of 1999 with a stellar eider who joined a flock of harlequin ducks.
