Most transgender women struggle with hair. Usually there is too much on our bodies and faces where we don't want it and not enough on the top of our heads where a lot of hair is a good thing. Below you will find information on a number of alternatives for getting the silky smooth skin that is a must for a truly feminine appearance. (Those lacking a good head of hair should visit the page on wigs and hairpieces.)

Hair removal involves a tradeoff between cost, pain, and maintenance. The hair removal methods that are long-lasting and/or permanent usually cost a lot of money and, in the case of electrolysis, can be quite painful. On the other hand, inexpensive and relatively painless methods of hair removal such as shaving require at least daily upkeep. If it is in your budget and you can deal with the discomfort, the various permanent hair removal methods are a great option. If you are seeking something less permanent and can deal with some pain but don't want to deal with hair removal every day, you should try the latest in epilation tools or topical hair solutions. Otherwise, shaving may be your best option. Of course, before starting any new hair removal regime, do your homework and read and follow all instructions because the only thing worse than being hairy is being scar-ry.

permanent hair removal

You have a few options for truly permanent hair removal. First and foremost, there is old fashion needle electrolysis. It is painful, it takes forever, it is expensive, and it works. A more modern technique is laser hair removal. With enhancements in technology, laser hair removal has become more and more effective to where its benefits now rival traditional electrolysis. It is a good alternative for those of us that are lighter skinned and have darker hair and it is preferred technique for permanently dealing with body hair.

hair removal by epilation

Epilation is hair removal the old-fashion way in which the hair is literally ripped out from the skin at the root. Waxing is a time honored method of epilation. When done properly, a bit of short-term pain will leave you hairless for a few weeks at a time. More recently, hand held devices resembling electric shavers have been developed for at home use to remove body hair; with practice, these epilators can be effective. Epilation should only be used on eyebrows or body hair. It is recommended that you do not wax male facial hair because the hair grows too deeply and can result in tissue damage.

topical hair removal

Topical hair removers include all those that you apply the skin. They work either by dissolving the hair below skin level inside the follicle or by slowing hair growth on a gradual basis. Make sure to completely follow manufacturers instructions for use including testing for sensitivities on a small patch of skin prior to a complete application.

shaving

Lastly, there is shaving. Although you have to do it every day, shaving is a tried and true method for getting baby smooth skin . . . for a little while, at least. Here are a few resources that might help:
