Well, Hans had invited us over for dinner at his Wine
Spectator Restaurant. No holds barred. But, we had
to bring a bottle of -Le Montrachet-. The rarest and
most expensive white wine in the world. Here's the menu.
All the wines are -Le Montrachet-, but we noted completely
different noses and tastes. No two were alike.

'72 Leroy (Creamed-Corn nose, but taste excellent.
   nutty, with peaches. ****)
'86 Amiot-Bonfils (Big. Golden color, heavy toast, oak,
   long finish, lots of depth. *****)
'81 Comtes-Lafon (Tight, lemony, light caramel.
   Lots of structure, chalk, elegant. Older. ***)
======Salmon poached in beurre blanc
'86 LaGuiche (Lighter style, no tart or lemon.
   Fades in the glass. *(*) ).
'92 LaGuiche  (Light but structured, better than the '86;
   Light oak, smoky. Nice, not huge. **(*) ).
======Halibut grilled and pan-finished in herbs
'83 DRC (Rich, elegant, opulant, 'late-harvest' style;
   hazlenut/filbert overtones. Chewy. Nice now.   **(**) ).
'93 DRC (Fat, heavy, big, massive. Also hazlenut.
   Perfect balance. Huge wine. Long finish. ***(**) ).
======Grilled shrimp and scallop with shitakes & herbs
'78 DRC (Pure oil. Enormous. Essence of chardonnay.
   A bit older, but opened up in the glass. Great. ***** ).
======Lobster in velote with lobster butter essence

Then to dinner. Seems Le Montrachet was just the opening.

'95 Clos de La Roche Dujac (much spice/cloves. **(***) ).
'78 Latour Pauillac (Huge, lots of tannin, young ***(**) ).
======Medallions of veal topped with fois gras
'93 La Tache (Marvelous. Blueberry/currant overtones. ***** ).
'93 Boillot Pommard 1r Cru Jarolliens (Nice. ***).
======Brie and camembert
'86 Doisy-Vedrines Sauternes

A fine time was had by all!
