Soup Kitchen Help Needed
Work and school schedules are changing for two volunteers who have been “lead cooks” on Thursday mornings and for another SK volunteer who has been a “lead’ on Saturday mornings. They will still be able to help, just not every week. We really need to fill the gap in the schedule. There are two areas of need. Please consider these opportunities. The lead cook’s role is to help plan the menu which is determined by what has been donat-ed, to help make sure the ingredients are on hand to com-plete the menu and to direct the prep cook crew who come to assist from 10-12pm on Thursday. The ‘lead volunteer’ on Saturday arrives at 8:30am, reviews the menu; greets and delegates the volunteers in heating/preparing the meal, side dishes and chores. We are usually done by 1:30pm. Everyone pitches in and shares the work and the joy. The work is a blessing to those we serve and to each other. If you feel the call to serve, we sure could use your help. Please let us know, as soon as possible. Thank you.
Project Homeless Connect
was a tremendous success this past Monday. The news reports say there were 350 peo-ple served and that many essential services were very wel-comed and appreciated. In some cases these were life changing services. As you know, a person without State ID can’t function in official situations very well. Getting out to the DMV and/or Vital Statistics is difficult or creates addi-tional transportation expense. Other important clinical screenings were available from our local medical, dental and eye clinics. Information was given on housing, counseling, employment and spiritual services. Prayers of thanksgiving are offered for the willingness of so many, to offer so much, to those in most need.
