A baby hawkowl! What a cutie. After just leaving the tree nest cavity, John and several participants heard young owls screeching somewhere on the ground. After a parent flew in with a vole to feed them, John located the smallest of the owlets and got this photo. Patience pays off when photographing wildlife. Hawkowls (Surnia ulula), along with several other owl species, can be seen on most of the Expeditions.
