Alaska is the 50th and largest state. It is aproximately one fifth of the total land area of the continental US. To put that into prespective, Alaska is more than twice the size of Texas, and stretches farther north to south and east to west than the continental United States. It's a big place.

650,000 people live in this huge state, forty percent of them in Anchorage. Newcomers are often refered to as "cheechakos" (native Alaskan for: "alien" or "foreigner"), and the more winters you have endured, the more of a "sourdough" you are.

Alaska is a prime destination for visitors from all over the world. Alaska is still a vast and varied last frontier and much of it appears as did over a century ago. Alaska is the land of the midnight sun, a land of many volcanoes, glaciers, lush rain forests, boundless tundra, a rocky coast line longer than the rest of the US combined, and the highest mountains in the United States.

Abundant with life in the oceans, lakes, rivers, and on land. There are many species of whales, killer whales, sea otters, seals, walrus, giant king crabs, salmon, and fish that inhabit the vast and cold oceans of Alaska. The land is teeming with giant Kodiak bears, massive brown bears, black bear, lynx, wolverines. Massive moose roam the forests and cities, with wolves and cyotes prowling, bald eagles nesting in cottonwoods, and rivers rich with numerous species of salmon, trout, dolley varden, and other fish.

Fall and winter visitors to Alaska see the skies blazing with the shimmering curtains of the Aurora Borealis (northern lights). Alaska's original peoples, Aleuts, Tlinkets, Eskimos, and others still ihabit and control large sections of virgin alaska territory. Visitors are always impressed by the rich diversity of native culture, artwork and crafts.
