Ship History:

Machias, "Little Bird on Big Water", has been a friend to Pacific Islanders for 30 years. Under the command of Captain Bill Austin, she has logged over 300,000 miles, from Easter Island to New Guinea, from New Zealand to Hawaii, visiting all Pacific island groups.

Launched in 1962 and rebuilt in 1984, she has the strength and capability to undertake most any expedition, from a local dive trip to an extended research trip into remote areas. She can carry up to 24 guests in air-conditioned comfort, or 18 tons of equipment needed far from any roads.
