Ship History:
Machias, "Little Bird
on Big Water", has been a friend to Pacific Islanders for
30 years. Under the command of Captain Bill Austin, she has logged
over 300,000 miles, from Easter Island to New Guinea, from New
Zealand to Hawaii, visiting all Pacific island groups.
Launched in 1962 and rebuilt
in 1984, she has the strength and capability to undertake most
any expedition, from a local dive trip to an extended research
trip into remote areas. She can carry up to 24 guests in air-conditioned
comfort, or 18 tons of equipment needed far from any roads.
