What Lutheran's Believe

We believe, teach and confess that people are saved by grace through Faith in Jesus Christ. "We are saved" means that God gives eternal life with Him in heaven, freely, out of His great love, to all who believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior from sin.

We believe that God gives us His Law, summarized in the Ten Commandments, as a pattern for life. That Law also shows us our sinfulness, and our need for a Savior from sin. We need only look at ourselves and at the world around us to realize the truth of the statement: "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. – There is not a just man upon earth who does not sin." This indicates our predicament if we were to depend on ourselves.

We believe that God so loved the world that He sent His only Son into the world to be our Savior. God placed on Christ the sins of all people. Christ bore the suffering for the sins of all people, the punishment we deserved to bear. He did this so that we need not be eternally punished for sin, but that we might have His righteousness by faith.

Baptism is God’s means for a new birth into Christ. Children should be baptized when their parents bring them to baptism. Through this means God creates faith in their hearts. Adults should be baptized when they have come to believe in Christ. In this way they confirm their faith in the Triune God,

The Lord’s Supper is God’s means of grace, along with the Word, by which God keeps and sustains us in the faith. He invites us to come confessing our sin, and to receive the assurance of His grace and mercy.

Christ will come, at a time that is known only to him. At that time He will receive to himself all who trust in Christ for the forgiveness of their sin.

The blessings of eternal life are there for all who trust in Christ.
