Items to bring on Alaskan hunting trip(Bitte bringen Sie mit)
- Sleeping Bag; Holofill preferable to down, 5 degree rated.
- Raingear; parka and pants. Must be dependable, lightweight, and quiet.
Brands I prefer are Dri-tex, Peter Storm, and Frogg Toggs.
Parkas made of Saddlecloth or other quiet, water repellent synthetics are very useful, but I don't depend on that alone, and carry real raingear as well.
- Hip Boots; knobby (air bob) soles, ankle-fit or stocking foot with lug
sole boot. LaCrosse, Orvis, LL. Bean, and Simms are good brands. Boots for Stocking foot avilable from Servus, Hodgman or NRS.
Neoprene hippers are quiet and warm, . Lightweight hippers are comfortable but noisy,
unless you can find some faced with rubber.
- Boots: waterproof leather + rubber shoepacs, or all rubber, calf hi
(14") Schnee, Xtratuff and LaCrosse are fine brands.
- Camp shoes
- Sox; wool or polypro; medium or heavy weight. 6 or more pairs.
- Long underwear; polypropylene, light, mid-weight, expedition. 3 sets.
- Pants; lightweight wool whipcord, nycott, Supplex or worsterlon. 3 pairs. No Jeans.
- Shirts; Wool, Supplex, or worsterlon. 2.
- Jacket; polypro fleece.
- Sweater; wool or fleece.
- Vest; holofill or down, medium weight.
- Caps; 1 for warm days, 1 that covers ears,( gore-tex with insulation,
or wool.)
- Gloves: 1 pair neoprene or gore-tex, 2 pair wool or polypro.
- Binoculars; lightweight, but preferably not the compact.
- Flashlight; small, AA, extra batteries. I use a headlamp.
- Rucksack or medium-size day pack.
- Camera
- Sunglasses
- Extra prescription glasses.
- Sunscreen lotion, hand lotion.
- Rifle caliber:
- 7mm or 30-06, are minimum
- Bullet construction very important. Factory ammo(Safari Grade)
available with Swift A-frame, Nosler Partition, Trophy Bonded, Barnes X, Winchester Fail-Safe.
Available in Anchorage or bring 2 boxes.
- Scope:
- Durable, waterproof, with solid mounts. Leupold is my preference.
Backup sights strongly advised.
- Bow:
- 60 lb draw advisable, heavier for Grizzly.
- Arrows and Broadheads should be on heavy side and maximize
penetration. No nail points. Blade to tip: Zwickey Eskimo, Grizzly, or
Magnus 2 blade. Be confident of fletching glue in rain.
Bring practice arrows and Judo heads for grouse.
