Imagism

Imagism is basically the impressionism of the poetry world. Words are chosen for their ability to convey a wealth of meaning in a few short syllables, helping to create a whole picture from a few pieces.

Worse Than Cocaine

The air
cold night
stars shining
the moon beckoning
howls of the dogs
in night air
the sled
the trail
they call me
I must go

Diving

Body streamlined
wings locked
talons ready
wild falcon scream
talons touch
pigeon soup

Quoth

Black eyes
black beak
midnight feathers
intelligent
crafty
scavenger
Raven

Wet and dry
and heat and light
Dark and cold and
love and hate
Pleasure and pain
and sweet and salt
Jaded and faded and
gold and night
Taste and sweat
and melt and slow
Burn and smooth and
drift and loop
Hands and feet
and heart and mind
Tremble and weep and
blink - bite - bind -
Height and breadth
and ice and fear
Slime and oil and
milk and sand
Honey and wood
and fruit and flame
Ash and dust
and endless plane
I love you,
Amen.
