This story is from Nannie(Nanny) Fleming, Dawson.

"Fed the menfolk the Ax for lunch"

It was the bigger boys job to keep the woodbox filled and Nanny would not let the girls do it. So one day when the men came in from the fields for lunch the ax filled the center of the table - the vegetables were ready and everything was on the stove but since there was no wood nothing was cooked. She didn't have any more trouble about the woodbox being empty. She was a little bit of a woman and the boys were all strapping big men and so was her husband but she had lots of fire and spirit.
