THIS IS THE ORIGINAL PHOTO THAT I HAVE of John E. Turner b. 1838 d. 1864.

HERE IS A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ORIGINAL SOURCE OF THE "PHOTO" AND THE
CLEANED UP ONE.

I KNOW THAT PASCHEL M. TURNER (A BROTHER TO JAMES AND JOHN) DIED IN 1865 AT
KINSTON, N.C. WHILE FIGHTING FOR THE UNION IN THE 8TH TENNESSEE INFANTRY.

I HAVEN'T GOTTEN THE RECORDS BUT I BELIEVE JOHN E. (1838) ALSO FOUGHT FOR
THE 8TH BUT GOT SICK IN THE WINTER OF 1863, DESERTED AND WENT HOME AND
EVENTUALLY DIED IN 1864.
IT APPEARS THAT ANOTHER BROTHER, ROBERT N. (1840) TURNER MAY HAVE JOINED THE
8TH EARLIER AND WAS MADE CORPORAL AND SURVIVED THE WAR AND MOVED TO
WASHINGTON CO., IND. AND MARRIED A LOCAL GIRL THERE. I DO KNOW FROM COURT
RECORDS THAT HE MARRIED REBECCA WILSON IN WASHINGTON CO., IND. AND THEY
LIVED THERE AND RAISED A FAMILY THERE.

 The
actual plate is 2" X 2 1/2" and is in a case with gold trim. It also
has what is supposedly a piece of John Turner's shirt folded up and
tucked into the case. It's quite a keepsake! -- Marian Howarth

John E. Turner b. 1838 - d. 1864

If the DNA test gives the information we think it will, then.....

Basically it would look like this.

John (1805 - 1870) Turner b. Tn. d. Cocke Co., Tn. married Mary A. circa 1827 in Tn. (m. - not sure of location)d. Cocke Co., Tn.

1st child and 1st son:

James "Howell / Howard" Turner (1828-1865) d. Cocke, Co. Tn. probably married Sarah Jane Fox
(1826-circa 1857) d. Cocke Co., Tn. her parents were Absolem Fox (1790/1800-1850/60) b. N.C.
d. Cocke Co., Tn. (? who married Elizabeth Reed (1806-1860/1870) b. & d. Cocke Co., Tn. (not sure of b.) They had the following children: 1. Absalom / Absalum "Fox" Turner (1815-1915) b. Cocke Co., Tn. & d. Maury Co., Tn. 2. Elizabeth Turner ( 1855 - ????) b. Cocke Co., Tn. and in a 1881 court case she is listed as living in Texas and no mention as to whether she was m. or not. I do know that her aunt Mary Lavina Turner m. Joel D. Brizendine and moved to Moniteau Co., Mo. before 1860. It is not clear if Mary Lavina d. in Cocke Co., Tn. or Moniteau Co., Mo. I do know that Joel D. Brizendine married Mary Jane Eppison in 1857 in Moniteau Co., Mo. and by 1860 they were living nearby in Carroll Co., Mo. It gets muddy after that. Most of the Brizendine kids marry and move to Fishing River Dist., Ray Co., Mo. but after 1860 I cannot find Joel D. Brizendine or his wife and remaining kids. I know that in 1860 Elizabeth is in Cocke Co., Tn. but I lose her after that. That dreaded court house fire in
Newport, Tn. causes a lot of heart ache when trying to find old records. 3. John Turner (1856-????) b. Cocke Co., Tn. and according to the 1881 court case he is still living in Cocke Co., Tn. as late as 1881. I am not sure who he is in the records so I do not have much on him at all. NOTE: IT APPEARS THAT AFTER SARAH JANE FOX TURNER DIES CIRCA 1856 / 1857 JOHN
"HOWELL / HOWARD" TURNER MARRIES MARTHA "PATSY" REED (1836 - AFT. 1881) B. IN
COCKE CO., TN. (?) AND DIES (?). JOHN AND MARTHA TOOK THE TWO YOUNGER CHILDREN
WITH THEM AND CONTINUED TO RAISE A LARGER FAMILY UNTIL 1865 AND JOHN (1805)
AND MARY A. (1799) TURNER TOOK IN ABSALOM / ABSALUM "FOX" TURNER AND RAISED
HIM TO ADULTHOOD. In the combined photo you have of John (1838) Turner and James Anderson (1877) Turner what you
have if the DNA results turn out a match between our two "test people" is : John (1838) Turner is a younger brother of James "Howell / Howard" Turner and James's son,
Absalom/Absalum (1852) had a son John Anderson Turner (1877). Therefore if I am correct,
James Anderson Turner would be the great nephew of John (1838) Turner. Correct me if I am
wrong. I know from Linda Yates that "Uncle Charlie" did the DNA test and should mail the kit
back in this week. I am not an authority but the results should be noted in about 4 weeks since
this was "the short 12 marker test." Gail Raibourn Blancett - the TURNER DNA COORDINATOR
can give a much better answer than I can. Lets hope that it is a perfect match and then we can rule Abaslom / Absalum (1852) Turner as being
a "Fox" by birth and taken in by the Turners. If there is a perfect match then we can be
reasonably assured that the parents of Absalom / Absalum were James Howell / Howard Turner
and Sarah Jane Fox and Absalom is a REAL TURNER BY BIRTH - HOORAY! Jim (James Turner Harris)
