Water Heaters
A fact of life in the winter
Thermostatically controlled heaters keep the water warm, but not hot. They cannot be tested in the living room because the thermost shuts off at a much lower degree than the basic house 70.
- 60 Watt Heated Dog Bowl (Could be used for chickens. Sorry Rover)
Plastic bowl with metal wrapped cord and heating coil in the base. Useful for sheltered areas.
- 15 Watt Bird Bath Heater
Works best in mild temperatures.
- 60 Watt AEB Automatic Electric Base (For metal poultry waterer, or large metal dog bowl)
A metal pan with element enclosed and raised off the ground. Designed to hold a metal poultry waterer. Due to the low wattage, this unit is better in an insulated shelter, with the top of the waterer insulated as well. There are better options for severely sub-zero temperatures.
- 250 Watt C-250 All Purpose Waterer
A nice alternative to the AEB for poultry. Also works well for dogs and small livestock. Will keep 5 gallons thawed down to some really cold temperatures. The cord is NOT wrapped in metal.
- 250 Watt H-49 Ice Chaser
Similar in power and useage to the C-250. The H-49 does have a metal wrapped cord to protect against chewing, and a 3 year warranty. Has a shut-off in case water goes dry.
- 60 Watt Heated Bucket
Holds 5 gallons. Even though the wattage is low, we have had some good reports of usefulness. Better in a sheltered barn.
- 1250 Watt Floating Tank Heater H-418
Popular for 100 gallon tanks, but must be secured to the tank. Some horses make a game out of tossing the heater out.
- 1000 Watt Universal Drain Plug Heater
This solves the tossing problem. The heater is anchored to the bottom of the tank with electric cord going through the drain hole.
- 1500Watt QSP Light Weight Heater
This unit has an open element and a wire frame to keep the element off the bottom of tank. Will keep 100 or more gallons thawed in very cold weather.
- 1500 Watt Ice Chaser H-419
This top of the line model has metal wrapped cord, aluminum encased element, dry water shut-off, and 3 year warranty. It will keep even an uninsulated tank free of ice all winter.
Heaters Without Thermostats
Bucket Heater is built in tube shape with a safety guard. It is useful to heat water to high temperatures for washing, or other uses where you will be there to unplug it. If left on, the water will boil as the heater does not shut off. It is also useful to thaw septic pipes.
