The Ride

The goal of the ride is to raise $8,000,000 for the American Lung Association.   Each rider must raise a minimum of $6,000 in donations.  There are about 1,000 registered riders.

The ride starts in Seattle Washington on June 15th, 1998 and ends 6 1/2 weeks and 3,000 miles later in Washington D.C.

The ride is fully supported. That means I'll be fed, I'll have a place to stay at night, I'll have hot showers, and they will pack my gear from location to location daily.   A "place to stay" means a campsite.  My gear will include a tent and a sleeping bag.  This means, that I will not have a room with phone and power.   That creates some challenges in "Staying Connected".  See how I plan to meet these challenges in the "Staying Connected" part of this web site.

Riding a bike from coast to coast is a once in a lifetime chance.  My experiences of this ride will be shared through e-mail (text and pictures) through the news media, and through this web site.  I will keep everyone updated twice a week.

Policiy prohibits me from linking to the web site of the main sponsor of this ride, but they have no objection to me telling you their address. So, go take a look at http://www.bigride.com.
