Tobacco Control
Teens Against Tobacco Use (T.A.T.U.):  T.A.T.U. lets teens teach schoolchildren to avoid tobacco.  Using peer education methodology, we turn teens from consumers to consumer advocates and show that teens mean business.
T.A.T.U. is also about advocating for change through participation in public policy process and working with various law enforcement and public health agencies on tobacco control.  For more information contact the ALAA at 1-800-478-9355, or the American Heart Association at 907-263-2044.

Freedom from Smoking Online:  A highly effective online course offering a support network and the tools to individuals who want to quit smoking.  FFS uses behavioral modification methodology to encourage smokers to quit smoking.  The online address is www.lungusa.org/ffs.   In addition to the on-line cessation program, the ALAA offers self-help videos, manuals, and other information to help one quit smoking.

Citizens to Protect Kids Against Tobacco(CPKT): The ALAA is a charter member of the group CPKT, a public policy group formed to advocate change in tobacco policy.  Recent successes include the increase in the tobacco tax and the new vendor assisted law in Anchorage.  Additional activities include Proud to be Smoke Free, Teens Against Tobacco Alliance, Mat-Su Valley and Anchorage Alliance activities, and supporters of anti-tobacco initiatives.  For more information, contact the ALAA at 1-800-LUNG-USA, American Cancer Society and 1-800-478-9355, American Heart Association at 907-263-2044, or Alaska Native Health Board at 907-337-0028.

Lung Lounge: The ALA's lung lounge is a place for teens with asthma to ask questions and discuss problems in a comfortable, anonymous setting - online.  The Lunge Lounge is not a replacement for medical care, but it is a place where teens can ask questions and get advice, and then make their own decisions about how to manage and control their asthma.  The online address is www.lungusa.org/chat.
