SPECIAL PROJECTS

AND

POINTS IN THE BANK

Mr. Holm's Classes, Service High School

2000/2001

One of the assignments you will be given this semester is a special project worth 50 points. Any of the projects listed below may be completed to meet this requirement. A total of up to 100 points may be accumulated by the end of the semester, where 50 of those points are extra credit. All special projects must be completed and turned in no later than Friday, May 26, 2001 (remember, I need time to read and evaluate the effort of all your hard work).

Should you have excused absences and you need to make up assignments, which did not come from the class text or a worksheet, you can obtain make-up points by completing projects from the list of options below. Examples of such missed assignments might be labs, quizzes, and notes from lectures and videos. However, keep in mind that you have a maximum of three days after an excused absence to turn in make-up work. You are therefore strongly encouraged to start accumulating special project points in your "BANK ACCOUNT", so you can use them when that unexpected excused absence occurs.

• RESEARCH PAPER

Five pages, typed, double-spaced, and using a minimum of three references. Turn in an outline of the paper no later than three weeks before due, and a handwritten draft no later than a week before due. Include a full bibliography, a photocopy of the front cover of each reference cited, and/or a printout of the title page of a source obtained via a computer, in addition to a photocopy/printout of each page cited or referred to in the paper. The paper will not be accepted unless these steps are followed. Worth up to 100 points. For an optimal grade do not use on encyclopedias.

• BOOK REPORT

Typed and double spaced, worth up to 75 points. Turn in a handwritten draft no later than a week before due. The paper will not be accepted unless this step is followed. Include a full bibliographic reference.

• FIELD RESEARCH

Students design a research project, involving the collection and interpretation of field data. Worth up to 100 points.
