Mastersword FAQ ||||||||||||||||| Q: Who are 'apostles'? A: Read the apostle information package. Generally, apostles are played by developers of the game. Q: What is an 'apostle item'? A: An apostle item is an item the developers put into the game for special purposes (usually for look or for strength) which standard players are not allowed to use (though some have hacked and gotten them, and those some will be banned from the game as of next patch) Q: Can a developer really ban me from the game? A: Yes. Q: Isn't that really dumb, I mean, to give the developers so much power? A: I don't think so. There IS a reason why we have the ultra strong equipment, and the ability to ban people, and other things: we want to make the game world interesting, so that players can have a character to look up to (or aspire to defeat), and so that the apostles can stage Dynamic Quests and other such events. Q: What's a Dynamic Quest? A: A Dynamic Quest (DQ) is an event which is run by one of the game developers, which occurs ingame. Example - You may be running along in some server one day, and come across an old beggar whom you've never seen before. The old beggar warns of a giant hawk which has chased him from his mountain home and down here into the plains. Sure enough, in the next couple of minutes, you spot a giant hawk (another thing which you've never seen before), and when you try to kill it, it turns into a human and explains that the old beggar was really an evil necromancer. You and the shapeshifter return to find the old man raising skeletons from the ground, and you two both engage in glorious battle. The necromancer is very strong, however, and defeats your shapeshifting comrade, changing him into an undead giant hawk, which attacks you too. When you have slain them both, you find on the body of the hawk, some 'giant hawk feathers,' of unknown use, and a magical ring on the old man. This sounds similar to a standard ingame quest, excepting one part: the specific events of the quest are being run by a living person, creating the ability for dynamic interaction. For example, you might have killed the giant hawk, and never found out that the old man was really a necromancer, or perhaps have sided with the necromancer and attacked the other players in the server. Also, you'll find, conversing with actors in a dynamic quest is much funner than talking with non-player characters. Q: Where do these DQs occur? A: Generally, dynamic quests occur on random, unlocked public servers, servers in which enough player spaces are available for all required actors, or, on occaision, in servers specifically set up for the event. These servers will be named after the DQ they are going to hold, and will probably be announced before-hand. Q: And in these Dynamic Quests, I can get items I wouldn't normally be able to get? A: Yes. These items are often referred to as 'DQ' or 'Unique' items. Q: Cool. So, what about magic? Where's magic? Will this game have magic? A: Yes, Mastersword will include an extensive magic system, but it won't be released to the public until we've gotten most of the gameworld done. This release is known as 'Release 2.0' or sometimes just 'Release.' Q: Will there be new classes and races? A: Yes, there are three more classes planned that are currently not available to the players, each of them dealing with magic. Also, there are two more races planned (aside from the humans), which are the Dwarves and the Elves. Q: When will I get to play as these new classes/races? A: In Release 2.0. Q: What are your plans between now and this fabled release? A: Most of the development is gearing toward getting Release 2.0 out the door, but expect some content updates (with improved graphics and often other things) and other little goodies in the meantime, as well as continuing addition of items and the like. Q: Are you going to have to know how to speak the elvish language for some quests? A: This is undecided, but as of right now we're leaning towards having the characters speak elvish with english subtitles.
