Regailia Headdress

This headdress with its cap of small “sead” beads and larger dangling beads of glass and bone, were sewn onto strips of hide and worn by women at dances and feast.

The making of such headdresses required many hours of intricate work. A beaded headdress such as this replica is documented on the Alaska Peninsula in 1883, and is on display at the Smithsonian Institution.
