Chief’s hat (closed crown) 16”L x 8”W x 14” D ($6,500.00) visor only.
Norton Sound/Bering sea hunting hat replica of a documented hat in use in 1880. The hunting hat with its fan of bird tails feathers also had side (volutes) carved in openwork bird designs; the brim ornaments depicted the seagull, walrus and seal. The wearing of this hunting hat allowed the hunter to become more birdlike. 16”L x 8”W x14 D ($7,500.00)
Materials: ivory, ptarmigan, feathers glass beads, paint colors of dark brown and an orange/red, and synthetic sinew, India inks.
