2-DAY EXTENSIONS

EXT-1 GLACIER BAY - WHALE WATCHING - SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE TOUR - FROM JUNEAU

Fly Juneau to Gustavus. Board whale watching cruise to Point Adolphus where Humpback whales spend the entire summer feeding. Watch for Stellar sea lions, seals, porpoise, bald eagles, and birds. Overnight at Glacier Bay. Board the M/V Spirit of Adventure to view this bay surrounded by glaciers. During your 9 1/2 hour voyage, watch for seals, whales, bears, mountain goats, and over 200 species of birds. Watch slabs of ice break off and crash thunderously into the bay, sending up showers of spray. A light lunch is provided. Upon return to Gustavus, fly to Juneau.

EXT-2 GLACIER BAY Ferry & Fly - FROM JUNEAU

This tour is the same as EXT-1, except you will transfer from Juneau to Auke Bay for a 2.5 hour scenic ferry to Gustavus. Enjoy the Whale watching cruise, spend the night at Glacier Bay Lodge, embark on the Spirit of Adventure Glacier Cruise, and return to Juneau by plane.

EXT-3 LAND OF KATMAI TOUR - BROOKS LODGE

Fly from Anchorage to King Salmon and by seaplane to Brooks Lodge. Join a nature walk led by a national park naturalist through the forest to see bears catching salmon close to the waterfalls. Overnight in Brooks Lodge at Katmai National Park. The "Valley of 10,000 Smokes" natural history tour will enable you to view a variety of wildlife and walk on the ash and pumice moonscape. Travel by bus to Overlook Cabin at the Valley of 10,000 Smokes. Stop for scenic views and wildlife encounters. At Overlook Cabin have lunch and learn the history of the area. You may hike down with the tour guide to examine the valley floor. Return flight to Anchorage.

EXT-4 NOME & KOTZEBUE

Fly to the large Eskimo village of Kotzebue, 36 miles above the Arctic Circle. The Eskimos have lived in this vast, unique environment for countless generations. Enjoy a guided tundra walk and explore the unique plant life. Visit the Cultural Camp to learn traditional foods, crafts, and ways of life as told by Eskimo youth. Visit the National Park Service Visitor Center and NANA Museum of the Arctic, featuring dioramas of Arctic wildlife and live demonstrations of traditional Eskimo customs. You can even join in a traditional blanket toss. Overnight in Kotzebue. Fly south to Nome and tour this Gold Rush town. Enjoy a dog sled demonstration and visit the Little Creek Mining Station to hear about the importance of gold to Nome’s past and present and try your luck at gold panning! Fly back to Anchorage.

EXT-5 ANCHORAGE - BARROW

From Anchorage fly to Barrow, the largest Eskimo village, the northernmost community in North America at 330 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Here the sun doesn’t set for 82 days in the summer, and doesn’t rise for 63 days in the winter. Spend a fascinating day enjoying the sights and sounds of ancient Eskimo culture and modern technology. You may take part in Native dances, hear Native storytellers and see a traditional blanket toss. Visit an old naval research station and the site of a Distant Early Warning System. Take a walk on the tundra, see the site of the original village and visit the northernmost point navigable by bus. Overnight in Barrow at Top of the World hotel or similar. Morning of leisure on your own in Barrow. Return flight to Anchorage.

EXT-6 VALDEZ & PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND RAIL-CRUISE-AIR

Board the Alaska Railroad & travel by train along Turnagain Arm. Watch for wildlife on this scenic route along the ocean and through tunnels to Whittier. Enjoy lunch on your own. Cruise through the highlights of Prince William Sound on your way to Valdez. View magnificent Columbia Glacier, narrow Esther Passage, and Barry Arm, with its multitude of glaciers flowing into the sea. Watch for marine wildlife which may include sea otters, sea lions, whales, and more! A hot meal is served on board. Overnight in Valdez. Optional tours in Valdez include a Pipeline Terminal tour, halibut or salmon fishing charters, museum visit, hiking, kayaking, rafting, and flightseeing. Transfer to your scenic flight to Anchorage.
