Dred Scott Declared Slave!!!!

by Katie Longden

Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger Taney has just made his decision on the Dred Scott case. This case began in Missouri where slave Scott sued for his freedom. His master had paraded him around the United States to many free states then brought him back to Missouri where slavery is acceptable. Now Dred Scott believes that because he has been to the free states he should be free. This case was to big for any small state court to handle so it was accordingly given to the Supreme Court to decide. Uncivil Taney decided that Scott is a black and therefore has no rights as a human, and is always a slave. Not only did this decision decide on Scott's slavery, but it also determined that Congress can no longer ever interfere with slavery in the states. Bad news for us Northerners, now the unjust slavery is set in the South, and the government can do nothing. I'm afraid to look to the future because of this decision now our country is further torn on slavery. War is eminent and slavery Will be abolished!
