Fishing
Why wait till summer to fish? Ice fishing is a popular sport and most local lakes are stocked with trout, Dolly Varden, Arctic char, Arctic grayling, and even king salmon. All you need is something to cut or auger a hole in the ice and a rod and reel (fly reels are best). You can easily reach more than 30 lakes in the Anchorage area. In addition to lake fishing, the lower portion of Ship Creek - right downtown - is usually open to king salmon fishing from January 1 through mid-July. Fishing license is required.
