The Transitional Living Center (TLC) is a confidential residential program targeted for, but not limited to,
victims of domestic violence and sexual assault who wish to transition to a substance-free and violence-free
lifestyle. TLC is open to women and their children and is comprised of two program components:
T-House
A safe, supportive, structured group living experience, which offers a three-phase program. Qualified staff
provide group and one on one education to clients on a variety of topics including domestic violence, sexual
assault and life skills. The use of alcohol or nonprescription drugs is not permitted while in the program.
T-House is a violence-free environment. Rent is based on income.
Independent Living
The Independent Living apartments are in a four-plex on an adjacent lot to T-House. Rent is based on income.
On-site individual and group assistance is available to address housing, employment, substance abuse, domestic
violence and life skill issues. Clients residing in the apartments participate in the same programs as T-House
residents.
Please note: the following is a basic program plan. Unique needs may be accommodated on a case-by-case basis
as deemed appropriate by program staff.
Phase I
Phase I begins with a 30-90 day educational process, focusing on domestic violence, sexual assault, substance
abuse and life skills. Groups are held daily.
Four days per week, education and prevention groups are conducted covering domestic violence, sexual assault,
healthy relationships and substance abuse. Women are also expected to complete three workbooks, which could
include Surviving Addictions, Domestic Violence, and Relapse Prevention. An individual program
plan is developed with each woman after week 1, based on her stated needs and staff assessment.
The other three days a week, life skills groups are facilitated. Hands-on instruction, support and assistance are
provided in the areas of household management, shopping, budgeting, cooking, cleaning, parenting and positive role
modeling.
A minimum of four outside support groups per week are required. If substance abuse is an issue, three of those
groups must be AA, NA, or Women for Sobriety.
Phase II
Phase II is designed for the woman who has successfully completed Phase I. The focus of Phase II is on long-term
planning which includes, but is not limited to, employment and education needs. The goal is self-sufficiency and
empowerment.
Residents work one-on-one with staff to develop individual program plans. A minimum of three outside support groups
per week is required for all women in the Phase II program.
Phase III
Phase III is a one-year follow-up for individual services and referrals after the client has discharged; these
facilitate regular client contact and support during Phase III.
