A Pirogue Page

This page is a collection of pirogue references. I've heard this word pronounced variously, "pie-roag" or "peer-row", but Louisianans tell me its properly "pie-rog" (rhymes with hog). None of these designs quite match the upper Mississippi River Duck Hunting Skiff design (above) that I am searching for, but they are all very interesting nonetheless.
Pirogues started with dugout cypress logs... Now evolved into "plank pirogues"....

Why build a pirogue instead of a canoe?
