ARCS Scientific Atlanta PowerVu D9223 Satellite Receiver Programming Instructions

To troubleshoot your PowerVu 9223 Satellite Receiver, be sure to follow these steps in order.

Step 1. Make sure your Scientific Atlanta PowerVu Satellite Receiver is turned on and tuned to CHANNEL ONE. This may be all that is needed. If you are still having problems, proceed to step two.

Step 2. Power down the PowerVu satellite receiver. This is NOT the same as putting the unit in "STANDBY". Locate the black power cord at the back of the PowerVu; pull it out for ten seconds, then plug it back in. The unit will take a minute to reset. When you see a channel appear on the front of the PowerVu, you should tune it to CHANNEL ONE. After a few more moments, you should have your ARCS back. If this reset method does not solve the problem, you may need to manually tune in a service on the PowerVu Receiver; proceed to step three.

Step 3. Manually tuning in a service. This is a bit more complicated and should only be performed AFTER CALLING THE ARCS TECHNICAL SUPPORT DESK TOLL FREE AT 888-840-0013. This procedure assumes the user can see the menus on a video monitor. There are two video outputs on the back of the PowerVu. The output labeled "Monitor" will display text menus on the monitor screen when the menu functions are used. The output labeled, "Video" will not display menus. You can temporarily feed the "Monitor" signal to your ARCS transmitter and see these menus on a television set tuned to your station.

  1. First you need to unlock your PowerVu. On the front panel, press the ALT button twice, so that the ALT light on the front panel is solid. Now press number "3" repeatedly until the display says "Loc0". Then press the YES button, the display will flash a few times. Now press the VIEW button and notice the ALT light goes out.
  2. Now to the menus; on the front panel press "MENU". On your video monitor you should see a screen labeled, "Commercial Decoder Status", with a menu at the bottom. Press "2", then "9" to get to the Installers Menu.

  3. Line one should say "C/L Band Freq."; if not, use the "CHAN" up or down buttons to change it. Now look at the second line down; the "L Band Freq:" should read 1095.75. If it does not, then use the "NEXT" button to advance the cursor to that position, and using the numeric pads, enter "1 0 9 5 7 5". Use the "NEXT" button again to move down one line; the "FEC Rate" should read 3 / 4. If not, use the ""CHAN" buttons to change it. Now press "NEXT" again to move the cursor down to the fourth line where the "Symbol Rate" should read 16.5000. If not, using the numeric keypad enter "1 6 5 0 0 0". Next, press the "USER" button to advance to page 2 of the installer menu, then press the NEXT button and make sure the Network ID is set to 1. If not, just enter "1". NOW PRESS THE "YES" BUTTON to save these changes.
  4. Look further down the menu to the line that says, "Bit Error Rate:" It will have some numbers, and the word, "LOCKED" should appear. If it does not say that within a minute, a larger problem exists that this procedure does not address. Press the "VIEW" button to exit the menu and call technical support at 888-840-0013.
    5. If the word "LOCKED" does appear, your receiver has acquired the ARCS signal. Press the "VIEW" button to exit the menu. Using the "CHAN" buttons on the receiver tune it to CHANNEL ONE. Within a few seconds you should see the ARCS channel on your monitor.
PLEASE POST A COPY OF THIS SHEET ON THE WALL AT THE ARCS SITE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. THANK YOU.

Note: Performing a factory software reset, checking the 19V power supply and adjusting your receiver dish are the next steps in this process. Please call 888-840-0013.
