All About the Alaska Craftsman Home Program

What is the Alaska Craftsman Home Program?

ACHP is the first program of its kind in the United States. It was formed with the assistance of the State of Alaska Office of Energy Programs, in conjunction with the University of Alaska Cooperative Extension service, Energy Rated Homes of Alaska, and the Alaska State Home Builders Association. ACHP was formed in 1987 following patterns set by the Canadian R-2000 program, and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 1989. Since its beginings, ACHP has and continues to provide education in energy-efficient building technology throughout the State of Alaska.

All ACHP workshops, publications, and projects are designed specifically for Northern regions. These regions have very diverse climatic zones with extreme temperatures, as well as precipitation, soil, and cultural differences. All of these factors must be taken into consideration when designing to meet the demands of every zone.
